La banda costarricense UNEXPECTED estuvo vigente del año 1987 a 1992, y su propuesta musical se basó en el Rock Pop.
UNEXPECTED tiene la distinción de ser la primera banda de la escena del Rock costarricense, en grabar su propuesta musical, en formato de CD (toda una novedad tecnológica para su época) y surgió como un proyecto de jóvenes universitarios, provenientes de Santo Domingo de Heredia.
El proceso de grabación del disco, se efectuó en el Estudio IMP (el cual le perteneció al señor Ingo Fischbach) y la edición final la confeccionaron, en Suiza. El contacto se dio gracias, al empresario suizo Christoph Berger (representante de las compañías BM Music – Suiza e Intertape).
Un domingo 16 de diciembre de 1990, en el Centro Cultural Costarricense Norteamericano, UNEXPECTED, presentó al público nacional, su CD: “Unexpected”. El precio de la entrada, costó ₵ 500.
Como dato anecdótico, unas 300 copias de “Unexpected” llegaron procedentes de Holanda (vía KLM) un 24 de diciembre de 1990, y no pudieron ser retiradas de aduana, debido a que los integrantes de la agrupación, no contaban con el dinero respectivo para su des almacenaje. Paso, varios meses para lograr el cometido
El disco “Unexpected” vendió cerca de 53,000 copias, unas 50,000 de ellas en Europa, especialmente en Suiza, y el resto, en Costa Rica. Para el 2011, este disco se considera “una joya” dentro de la escena nacional y NO está en venta.
El tema: “Highway Running” contó con un videoclip, el cual fue programado por la cadena estadounidense “MTV”.
Debido a sus profesiones, los integrantes de UNEXPECTED tomaron rumbos diferentes, pero, dejaron su huella dentro de la escena del Rock nacional, de Costa Rica.
