BLIND GUARDIAN inició su cabalgata musical en 1980, en Krefeld, Alemania, como un cuarteto, pero, inicialmente se llamaron LUCIFRE’S HERITAGE. Bajo este nombre grabaron dos Demos:

Para 1987, cambiaron su nombre por: BLIND GUARDIAN, y obtuvieron un contrato discográfico con el sello: No Remorse Records, con el cual lanzaron su primer álbum y sus siguientes obras:

En 1998, Hansi Kürsch deja de interpretar el bajo para ocuparse exclusivamente de la parte vocal y su lugar es ocupado por Oliver Holzwarth. Holzwarth continúa grabando la sección del bajo en todos los discos posteriores de BLIND GUARDIAN, y participa en todas las giras, pero, sólo es considerado como un músico invitado. El resto de la banda quedó conformado de la siguiente manera:

En el 2005, Thomas Stauch declinó a seguir con BLIND GUARDIAN, tras diversas discrepancias, respecto al rumbo musical que el resto de sus colegas, le querían impregnar al grupo. Stauch fue re-emplazado por el baterista teutón Frederik Ehmke.
